Being Prepared: Disaster Response

Hurricanes. Wildfires. Mass shootings. In times of disaster or crisis, our members – especially those with chronic illnesses or home-based support – need to know how to get care, medicine, medical equipment and social supports. We have to communicate with our membership quickly, and we don’t have time for state approval in these cases – many times, the state agency is in the affected area, so we can’t submit content for approval anyway. We developed template materials, proactively approved and ready to deploy in times of natural disaster or crisis, to give people and communities we serve timely access to important information.

Tactics & Results

Video, print, web, telephonic outreach

  • Video for social media or email encouraging disaster preparedness
  • Template social media posts to deploy before, during and after the event
  • Template webpage to house state resources and any clinical information – telehealth and nurseline access, relaxed prior authorization, emergency prescription fill information, and more.
  • Phone script to reach out to members post-disaster and offer a transfer to the call center if they need assistance
  • Talking points for the call center to field such calls
